Grateful for Today, Hopeful for Brighter Tomorrows.
We cherish the progress make each day, knowing that every step forward helps transform the lives of single mothers and their children. While we are deeply grateful for today’s impact, we remain inspired by the promise of brighter tomorrows—a future where every family has the stability, support, and hope they deserve.
A Critical Mission
At CityHouse, we believe in taking a proactive approach to homelessness, ensuring single mothers and their children stay together and have a safe place to call home. Homelessness puts mothers at risk of losing custody of their children, leading to foster care placements and further family disruption. While many organizations step in after foster care placement, we focus on preventing homelessness before it happens. By providing comprehensive support that addresses critical issues like affordable housing, domestic violence, and the struggles of low wages and limited childcare, we aim to strengthen families from the start.
Currently, we are supporting 20 mothers and 37 children in our residential programs and have made a significant impact throughout South Florida through our community care program. Our goal is to offer immediate assistance and create lasting, meaningful change, empowering families and building a brighter, healthier future for generations to come. Together, we can create a stronger, more unified community.
A Plan For The Future:
CityHouse is expanding to meet the urgent need of rising homelessness among single mothers and their children. Without a safe and stable home, these families face overwhelming emotional and financial struggles. But with your support, we can change their futures. In Palm Beach County, 30% of children in foster care could return home if their parents had proper housing—and in Broward County, that number soars to 60%.
With a five-year plan, we aim to add 40 housing units and are actively seeking opportunities to expand throughout South Florida, offering life-changing support to more families on their path to stability and independence.
The Untold Truth:
Healing Trauma to Lift Homeless Mothers and Children Out of Poverty
The “Homeless Children: America’s New Outcast” report reveals that 92% of homeless mothers have faced severe physical or sexual assault. The mothers we serve also experience high rates of mental and emotional challenges, often stemming from adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). Addressing these underlying issues is crucial for helping families achieve the emotional, relational, and economic stability needed to break the cycle of poverty and homelessness.
An Insufficient System
-
Unstable Futures
Over 30% of children in foster care experience three or more placements, leading to a lack of stability and continuity in their lives.
-
The Graduation Gap
Less than 60% of youth in foster care graduate from high school by age 19, compared to 87% of all youth.
-
A Mental Crisis
Up to 80% of children in foster care have significant mental health issues, compared to about 20% of the general child population.
-
An Instant Issue
Around 20% of foster care youth who age out of the system become instantly homeless, facing severe challenges in adulthood without a support network.
-
The Price of Shelter
South Florida currently faces a shortage of affordable housing units, with nearly 1 million low-income households struggling to find housing that fits within their budget.
-
Pushed to the Brink
Over 50% of renters in South Florida spend more than 30% of their income on housing, pushing many low-income families to the edge of homelessness. This severe rent burden disproportionately affects single mothers and survivors of domestic violence.
We are proud to share that 83% of the families in our residential program successfully graduate into long-term, sustainable independence, equipped to provide far more than jus the basics for their children.
Proven & Adaptable
With proven, adaptable models, CityHouse is equipped and ready to expand into new communities, bringing the tested solutions of our programs to families throughout South Florida.
